I Said Yes! to DIY Wedding

I Said Yes! to DIY Wedding

As most of you know I recently got engaged on New Year’s Eve and I must say, it was one of the best nights of my life! We were celebrating NYE at the Gaylord hotel at the National Harbor, where B proposed with my sister and her boyfriend who had joined us for the night there as well. Of course, like many of us recently engaged ladies, the wheels in our brains immediately start spinning about all of the possibilities we could do for our wedding. There’s SOOO much that B and I would love to do, but we’re on a pretty tight budget of just $5,000. I thought this number that we came up with was a little crazy, and I honestly wanted to cry as I didn’t think it was even possible to have a wedding with that low of a budget. BUT, I know we can do it…we all love little DIY projects!!

I started doing research on how to have a wedding on a tight budget and I came to realize that not too many people like to talk about how much they spent. Well my friends, I would like to change that. I’m starting a new category here on the blog—DIY Wedding. I’m going to give you all the play by play on everything I’ve done that’s DIY (which will be mostly everything) and how B and I are making our budget work. We may or may not fail on the tight budget, but for now I’m confident we can do this! So come along with me as I plan my wedding, with the hope that I can help many of us recently engaged couples out that are on a tight budget like B and I.

Oh, and did I mention we were planning on having our wedding this coming August? Yeah, I know, we’re even crazier! But that’s what makes this category so great. I’m hoping I can show all of you that you can plan your wedding on a tight budget AND plan it in less than a year. Be on the lookout for the first post coming soon! Cheers to all of us newly engaged ladies and here’s to hoping that we don’t turn into bridezillas!

Oh, it’s going to be a crazy ride Hayley! I feel it. But it’ll be good! I’m thinking if my invitations, save the dates, etc. turn out good, I might share them with you all to download or create an Etsy shop. Thanks for your support and coming along this crazy journey with me! xoxo

Congrats!! We got engaged in December (2011) and married the following August on a tight budget! It can totally be done, and if anyone can do it, you can! We DIYed our invitations, thank you notes, Photobooth (with the help of a friend), and found a reasonale but fabulous photographer. It was soo much fun and friends and family loved to help! I even had an invitation making/stuffing party and had wine and apps for my girls…great bonding and getting stuff done! Good luck…even though you don’t need it 🙂

Hi Lysandra! Oh wow!! Okay, that’s exactly like us. That makes me feel a lot better that it’s been done before! I think that’s exactly what we are going to be doing…DIY everything! That’s a great idea on the party!! I may have to do something like that. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and support! I’m hoping this will turn out just as I imagined! xoxo

[…] I Said Yes! to DIY Wedding B proposing to me on New Year’s Eve last year was probably one of the best days of my life.
