DIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub

DIY Mermaid Sugar ScrubDIY Mermaid Sugar ScrubHi friends and hello Monday! Um, I’m just going to jump right into it—can we talk about how perfect this sugar scrub looks? I had no idea going into the project that it was going to be even better than I had expected!! Okay, so I made this sugar scrub last year for my bridal shower and it was a hit, so I thought, why not try another sugar scrub?? I think this one tops last years. Not only am I sharing the tutorial on how to make your own, BUT I also included a printable to place on the lid of your jars! It has a cute little quote on it that says, “feel like a mermaid” …because we all need to feel like a mermaid every once and a while (duh!). Not only is this an awesome recipe for you, but it will also make the most perfect gift!

Okay, so here’s how to make your own mermaid sugar scrub.

How to:

Step 1: Mix in sugar, coconut oil, and coconut extract into a large bowl. DIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub DIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub

Step 2: Break the well-mixed sugar scrub into thirds and place each third into three separate bowls.

Step 3: This step may vary for your mixture so please color to your liking. Here’s what I did—In the first bowl, place 1 drop of red. Mix well. In the second bowl, place 1 drop of green and 1 drop of blue and mix well. Lastly, place 1 drop of blue into the remaining bowl and mix well.DIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub

Step 4: Using a spatula or spoon, scoop each color into the jar, portioning off so that each color fills a third of the jar (see photo below to get a better idea).DIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub

Step 5: Using a stick (or the end of a fork) lightly mix the middle of the scrub so as to give the colors a swirl effect. DIY Mermaid Sugar ScrubDIY Mermaid Sugar Scrub

Does the food coloring transfer to your face when you wash with it? Would hate to make this and have a colored face!

      Hi Denise,
No, the food coloring should not color your skin. As long as your lightly coloring the scrub you really shouldn’t have any problems. I’ve made this scrub a couple of times and haven’t personally had that issue. I hope this helps!

Ive never used coconut oil for a scrub before and this recipe is perfect for a secret santa. Do i need to melt the coconut oil?

Hi Jennifer! Yes! This would be a wonderful secret santa gift! I don’t recommend melting the coconut oil at all, as the solid state of the oil will mix well and hold the ingredients together in order to create the scrub.
      Best of luck!
